Hogfish Bar & Grill sits on the docks at Safe Harbor Marina on Stock Island, one bridge past Key West and a world away from Duval Street. It has been locally owned for more than 20 years and it looks it: open-air, tin roof, walls covered in license plates and bar signs, picnic tables facing the shrimp boats and charter fleet. This is where captains eat lunch.
From US 1, turn onto Shrimp Road at the Stock Island light (MM 5), then follow the signs for Safe Harbor Marina to Front Street. It is about 10 minutes from Old Town Key West, and worth the detour on any day you are tired of paying Duval prices for fried fish.
Local Tip
Order the Killer Hogfish Sandwich on Cuban bread and eat it at the rail facing the marina. Go for lunch or happy hour on a weekday. Dinner on weekends means a wait, and they do not take reservations.
